NADCA Joins ASAE Coalition to Advocate for Tax-Exempt Sector Amid Threat of Increased Taxation

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ [January 14, 2025] – As Congress prepares to debate the expiration of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) next year, NADCA – the National Air Duct Cleaners Association – has joined forces with the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and other tax-exempt organizations in a unified effort to protect the 501(c) sector from proposed taxation.

The coalition is mobilizing to counter significant threats to the tax-exempt status of nonprofit organizations. With a $4.6 trillion tax cliff looming, policymakers are scrutinizing the sector as a potential revenue source, and major think tanks have called for new taxes on 501(c) organizations. Recognizing the critical role nonprofit organizations play in serving communities and driving economic growth, ASAE has committed to investing $1 million in strategic advocacy and communications to combat these proposals, with additional contributions being sought from coalition members to amplify the initiative.

“NADCA is proud to join this coalition to advocate for the tax-exempt status that enables associations like ours to make a meaningful impact on public health, workforce development, and energy efficiency,” said Jodi Araujo, CEM, CEO of NADCA. “We believe that taxing 501(c) organizations would significantly hinder our ability to deliver vital programs, like promoting indoor air quality and equipping technicians with the skills to support healthier communities and workplaces.”

Through its initiatives, NADCA has educated homeowners on the importance of clean HVAC systems via the Breathing Clean campaign, collaborated with the American Lung Association to address respiratory health, and trained HVAC professionals in underserved communities to foster workforce development. NADCA also demonstrates cost-effectiveness by advocating for energy-saving practices, with a recent study showing that clean HVAC systems can improve energy efficiency by up to 30%, saving millions in energy costs annually.

“The tax-exempt sector is a cornerstone of community support and innovation,” added Araujo. “The coalition’s work to preserve these tax advantages is vital to maintaining the essential services nonprofits provide.”

NADCA’s participation underscores the association’s commitment to protecting its ability to serve its members and the communities they support. With ASAE’s leadership, the coalition will work aggressively to educate lawmakers on the detrimental effects of taxing 501(c) organizations and advocate for the continuation of the current tax framework that empowers these organizations to fulfill their missions.
